Stonewall
With a population of just under 5,000 people, the town of Stonewall is just outside of Winnipeg. Beautiful limestone quarries can be found throughout this gorgeous town, and the annual festival Quarry Days is held each year in Downtown Stonewall. Notable residents of the area include William Kurelek, Alan Arnett McLeod, and Holly Letkeman. Stonewall Quarry Park and Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Center are two of the area’s main attractions.
Stonewall Quarry Park used to feature both a visitor’s center and museum. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed both structures in 2007. In 2011, a new interpretive center was opened to service Stonewall Quarry Park.
Other notable places of interest include the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, Air Force Heritage Park & Museum, and Grand Beach Provincial Park.
Nearby hotels include The Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel, Lakeview Signature by Wyndham, and Canada Inns Destination Center Garden City.
Popular restaurants in and around Stonewall include Smith Restaurant, Kiln Drive-In, Cravings, and McLeod House Tea Room. The McLeod House Tea Room is located at 292 Main Street. It is known as a great place to stop in for breakfast and dessert. Given its downtown location, it makes for a great starting point during your travels. The Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre is another very popular attraction featuring a restored prairie marsh.
