St James
Located along the busy Portage Avenue, the greater St. James area was one of Winnipeg’s original districts. Today, St. James is a hub of shops, restaurants, cafés and other specialty stores. It is also home to the city’s biggest shopping mall CF Polo Park, and surrounded by other large retailers.
In the area is also Grant’s Old Mill, an 1800s flour mill, as well as the Historical Museum of St. James. You’ll also find the 1911 Municipal Hall Building, home to exhibits from the St. James-Assiniboia area and other surrounding parishes.
Assiniboine Park is technically located in Tuxedo, but it is also accessible from St. James by a pedestrian bridge across the Assiniboine River. This beautiful park features many attractions such as the Assiniboine Park Zoo, a duck pond, multiple restaurants, a new children’s adventure playground area, the Qualico Family Centre, multiple walking trails, Leo Mol sculpture garden, a pavilion, and a musical and theater stage.
For other outdoor fun, play a round of golf at the Assiniboine Golf Club. Some of the area’s most popular eateries include the iconic banana split at Sargent Sundae.
